Cloth, spined boards, G. xviii+331pp, index, front hinge temporarily repaired with tape, a good copy. GREEK text. Edited by Long & based upon the 1825 text of Dindorf. This edition has a summary of the text & an index added. A rather uncommon transliteration. No copies on COPAC or at the British Library The Anabasis contains Xenophon's account of his own & Cyrus' campaign to dethrone Cyrus' brother, Artaxerxes. When Cyrus is killed Xenophon takes over command of the Greek troops & leads them across Persia.

Paperback, G+. 309pp, text unmarked, covers slightly rubbed, first page spotted, a nice copy. Xenophon [430-355 BC] writes of the campaignb of Cyrus the Younger to dethrone his older brother. Cyrus is killed & Xenophon takes charge of the army. He leads his 10000 men through Persia to the Black Sea. This translation by Rex Warner.

[xvi]+383+[1]+31]pp, engraved frontis [ by J Mynde ], title in red & black, The Defensio has a separate title page showing the Radcliffe Camera in vignette, leather rather rubbed & with the upper hinge cracking, corners bumped, pp131-134 partly detached at the gutter leaving the fore edge a little worn, text unmarked & in near fine condition. Old ownership signature of John Davie dated 1757 on the endpaper. Second edition of Simpson's useful edition of Xenophon of Athens' Memorabilia, or defence of Socrates, complete with the Apology. The Greek text appears in the upper part of the page, the latin translation by Johannes Leunclavius [ 1533 - 1593 ] below. Simpson used the earlier editions of Johann August Ernesti & Aemilius Portus as reference.
