Decorated russet cloth, VG. xvi+283pp, b/w map at the rear, colour frontis & 69 colour plates by Molyneux, index, some pages of the text browned due to quality of paper stock, plates unaffected, hinges strong, ownership inscription of Helen Budd, covers bright & clean. A & C Black 20 shilling series. Well illustrated account of the sights & sounds of Kashmir. Younghusband describes the scenery, hunting & inhabitants of this remote area of Northern India. Younghusband [1863 -1942] was an Explorer, who explored Manchuria in 1886. The following year he journeyed from China to India, crossing the Gobi desert and the Mustagh Pass at 19,000 ft in the Karakorum. Lord Curzon, the British viceroy in India, sent Younghusband with a military expedition into Tibet in 1904, where he forced a treaty upon the Dalai Lama, opening Tibet to Western trade.
