Originally published in 1832 the book comprises of a series of short stories based upon historical events in Italy from the 6th to the 16th centuries. Charles MacFarlane [ 1799 - 1858 ] Scottish traveler & historian & occasional novelist. He went on the Grand Tour, spending much time in Turkey & Italy. On his return to England he began writing mostly history & historically based novels.
