Compiled for his own use they were not published until long after Andrewes death & offer an insight into the man & his learning.

Lacks the final leaf of adverts, a good copy. Later printing of Armstrong's blank verse georgic on matters pertaining to the constitution and the second to contain Aikin's essay. The poem was originally published in 1744 giving David Hume cause to remark 'truly classical; the most Augustan thing we have in English'. Aitkin's essay first appeared in the edition of 1795. John Armstrong, [ 1708 - 1779 ] Scottish physician and poet. John Aikin [ 1747 - 1822 ], physician who found greater fame & fortune as a writer who had written much on medicine & medical history by the time he offered his critical essay on Armstrongs poem.
