Original cloth gilt, VG. xvi+380pp+24pp publishers adverts, 5 b/w plates, 3 large folding geneaologies, printed within ruled borders, an attractive copy in a slightly worn binding which is snagged at the head of the spine & splitting along the rear hinge, the binding consisting of raised tooling in the imitation of brickwork, Ex Libris Paul Morgan with his book plate & signature as well as a note saying the book was purchased from Blackwell's Oxford in 1939 for 5 shillings. Occasional pencil marginalia, a nice copy. Uncommon detailed account of New Place in Stratford which was Shakespeare's retirement home. Purchased by him in 1597 he finally moved there in 1610. The house was pulled down in 1759 by Francis Gaskell who was tired of the constant visitors to the house.
